Happy Halloween + Pumpkin Masterpieces

We've been busy getting ready for Halloween this week. Eliza is very excited, and every time she hears anyone mention anything about Halloween, she starts talking about candy. She "gets it" this year, and it has been really fun to listen to her talk about trick-or-treating and costumes.

As many of you know, Ryan is a pumpkin carving master, and this year he did not disappoint. He carved an Elmo pumpkin for Eliza and then he carved a pumpkin of Eliza's face. This years pumpkin carving was much more dramatic than years past because Ryan ended up with six stitches. Thank goodness our friend, Trenton, came to the rescue, and stitched his thumb right up for him! Thank you Trenton, for saving us hundreds of dollars in medical bills!

The last thing Ryan said to me before he went to see Trenton was, "I'm going to finish that pumpkin!" Here's the final product. What do you think? See here for all of Ryan's pumpkins over the past several years.

I hope you all have fun trick-or-treating tonight!

Halloween Wine Night

Last week I hosted a Halloween wine night for some girlfriends. I love an excuse to throw a party and decorate my house for a holiday. I really needed some girl time, and Ryan happened to be out of town, so it was perfect timing. I can't wait for our next get together!

  • Wine labels, spider rings, and spider web decor from Michaels
  • Cups, napkins, plates, straws, and "I'll get you, my pretty!" sign from Swoozies
  • Pumpkin Rice Krispie recipe found here
  • Pumpkin dip recipe from here
  • Halloween Snack Mix: Crispex, pretzel sticks, mini marshmallows, candy corn, M&Ms,

State Fair Fun

Last weekend was a busy one for us! I was down at the beach for a girls weekend and my parents kept Eliza for us while I was gone. On my way back to Greenville, I stopped in Columbia to get Eliza, but before we headed back home we made a little pit stop at the state fair. Some greasy fair food was just what I needed on Sunday! Eliza enjoyed the food equally as much as I did, and she loved seeing all the fun rides! We were late getting home on Sunday, but it was totally worth it!

House Tour-Eliza's Nursery

Happy Hump Day friends! We're moving on up the stairs in our house tour, and I wanted to share some pictures of Eliza's nursery with y'all. We really need to start thinking about transitioning Eliza into a big girl bed, especially since she climbed fell out of her crib for the first time the other night, but I'm trying to put that off as long as possible. Ryan wants to build Eliza's bed when we do make the switch, which I think is really special, so I'm looking all over Pinterest for ideas of what I think would be best in this space.

This room looks a lot like the nursery in our first house because we moved shortly after Eliza was born, so I basically used everything we had just bought. Even the paint color is the same. No need to buy new things when you already have it all. I did buy the rug and put up some different artwork, but other than that, its very similar.

The Details:
  • Paint-Agreeable Grey from Sherwin Williams
  • Light Fixture-Found here at Ikea
  • Curtains-These curtains were my one big spurge for the nursery and I basically designed the whole room around them. I found the fabric at Tony's Fabric in Greenville and had them made there as well. As soon as I saw the fabric, I knew I wanted to have them in the nursery.
  • Bamboo Blinds-found here from Overstock
  • Crib- We found this Jenny Lind crib on Craigslist for $60 and painted it with Ralph Lauren Regent Metallic
  • Crib Bedding-Serena and Lily Punch
  • Rocker-Ryan's sister gave us this before Eliza was born and we just had it recovered in the chevron fabric.
  • Armoire-We found this piece of furniture on Craigslist as well. We just changed out the knobs, which came from Hobby Lobby. The baskets on top of the armoire are from Home Goods
  • Rug-from Pottery Barn outlet in Gaffney, SC
  • Balloon mobile above changing table- from Restoration Hardware Baby and Child. I don't think they carry this particular one any more, but they do have some other really pretty ones.
  • Artwork-Most of the art in the nursery was painted by mother-in-law. She did everything but the cross painted, which was a gift from a friend.

It's That Time of Year

The time of year where I post the obligatory "pumpkin patch" pictures. Last we really did go to an actual pumpkin patch, but this year, because of our crazy schedule and being out of town a lot of weekends this fall, we just went to a big field filled with pumpkins at a local church down the street from our house. Eliza didn't seem to mind, and had just as much fun rearranging all of the pumpkins. Maybe next year we'll make it to the patch!
