Memorial Day Weekend

We had a nice, relaxing Memorial Day weekend. I had Friday and Monday off of school, so Ryan and Eliza and I were able to spend a lot of quality time together. I am really looking forward to more days like this when I'm out of school for the summer.

We went swimming

and to the Farmer's Market.

We stayed in our pajamas

and ate a lot.

We went to church,

and after church we went to check out our new house. It's coming along! They started painting it this weekend. More pictures to come soon.

We capped off the weekend by watching the USA Cycling Pro Championships. The course was right down the street from the apartment we are renting, so we didn't have to go very far to get a good view.

I hope you all had a great weekend too. I'm looking forward to another one coming up very soon. Too bad it isn't another long one!

8 Months

Eight months! When did that happen?! For some reason, this month seems to have gone by much faster than all of the others. Eliza's little personality is developing each day. As my dad says every time he see her, "She is turning into a little person!" Actually, she is tuning into a little Ryan. People we don't know will come up to us and comment on how much they look alike.

Eliza's favorite thing to do is stand up and hold on to the railing of her crib. She makes the funniest noises when she does this. She is not crawling yet, but she can get to the things she wants by scooting or army crawling. I think she may be one of those babies that never crawls, but I guess we will see!

We go back to the doctor next month, so I'll find out her exact weight and height then. I start laughing every time I look at her legs. There are little indents where her knees should be. Eliza can wear some nine month clothes, but she is also wearing a lot of 12 month clothes now. She is in size four diapers these days. Still no teeth yet!  Her hair continues to grow, and it is getting a lot thicker in the back. I'm still waiting for the day I can put a bow in it! :)

This month she has learned to clap her hands together when we tell her to, and she is getting much better at feeding herself. We plan to start her on stage 3 foods tonight. She is still sleeping well at night and normally takes two long naps a day. Eliza is such a sweet girl and she brings so much joy to everyone she meets. Happy eight months little munchkin!

Mother's Day Weekend

It seems like I'm always about a week behind getting my posts up, but that's the norm for me these days. I'm at least a week behind with everything else in my life too. I think better get used to this whole being late thing, which is really hard for me because I suffer from Type A personality. Anyway, I had a wonderful first Mother's Day. In fact, the whole weekend was great.

We spent Saturday afternoon at Artisphere, a local art festival that comes to downtown Greenville once a year. My sister in law was in town, so we met her and my mother-in-law for lunch. After lunch we walked around with my friend Caroline, and her little girl, Sutton. Eliza and Sutton are only six weeks apart, and they are BFFs. We had so much fun with them!

This Brian Olsen's "Art in Action." It was so cool.

No, this was not one of the art exhibits. I just thought y'all might be interested to see some of the good people watching that goes on at Artisphere. Please check out the woman in the purple shirt eying this lovely and oh so sweaty man.

Eliza and Sutton's Saturday afternoon photo session. Every time we take pictures of the two of them together, there is at least one of Eliza trying to eat Sutton's clothes. What can I say, she is a hungry girl!

One last family photo. :)

On Saturday night we went out to dinner to celebrate Ryan's birthday, which happened to be on Mother's Day this year. We thought we would eat somewhere outside of downtown because we figured it would be pretty crowded since Artisphere was going on. We decided to go to Saksatoon, an awesome restaurant that Ryan has been wanting to go to for a while.  The only thing we didn't think about when making plans was that is was prom night for a lot of high schools, so we ended up sitting at the bar. The food was great and we had a lot of fun checking out all of the dresses. Ryan was shocked by what some of the girls were wearing. I, however, was not surprised at all. I work with teenage girls every day and dress code issues are a daily battle.

Check out my Mother's Day present! Ryan drew a charcoal picture of Eliza for me. It is being framed this week, and I can't wait to see the final product. Don't I have an awesome husband?!

Happy Mother's Day and Happy Birthday Ryan

Happy Mother's Day to all you mamas out there! This has been a special day for me because not only is it my first Mother's Day, it's also Ryan's birthday! We've had a lot to celebrate today!

I am so thankful for my wonderful mother, grandmothers, and mother-in-law for setting the example of the kind of mother I want to be. Now, more than ever, I appreciate all that they have done for me. I hope to be a Proverbs 31 woman just like all of them!

I also want to give my wonderful husband a birthday shout out! I could not ask for a better husband and father to Eliza. Thank you for everything you do for us! I love you so much, and I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Poor Belle

Last week was not so great for Belle. We were getting things ready to go out of town last Thursday night when she started throwing up, and didn't stop until we took her to the vet on Friday morning. It turns out that she swallowed something, and it was causing a blockage in her stomach. They ended up cutting her open to remove whatever it was that she swallowed. We think it was something she found outside because the vet said that it didn't look like one of Eliza's toys. She has sixteen staples in her belly right now, but she gets them out on Monday. The surgery didn't seem to affect her too much because she is still running and jumping all over the place like she always does.

Eliza is not giving her any special treatment. Notice Belle hiding in the background in the second picture. :)

Cinco de Mayo Weekend

Last weekend we went to Columbia for the wedding of a childhood friend. While we were there, we ran in the Crawdaddy Dash. Ryan ran the race with Eliza, and my mom and I ran together. My mom came in first in her age group, and I came in fourth in mine. Don't be too impressed though. It was a really small race, and I haven't been able to walk all week. :)

After the race we walked around the Rosewood Crawfish Festival. They let all of the runners in an hour before the festival actually started. We pretty much just ate our way from one end of the street to the other. Nothing like running three miles, and then eating french fries, crawfish, and doughnuts.

When we got home, we took Eliza for her first swim! She loved splashing around in the pool, and we had just as much fun watching her. It was really hot in Columbia on Saturday, so it was the perfect day to be by the pool.
